Mork plays Spore
Saturday, October 14, 2006 (0 reads) -- ribeye
I knew that Robin Williams liked to play as a sniper in Battlefield 2, but I had no idea that he was a recognized gamer by others.
Apparently, at E3 2006, he was invited by Will Wright to demonstrate the creature editor of Spore. As the creator of the Sims genre, Will Wright is known for his unique style of gameplay that puts you in control of the creation of a universe, where game-winning conditions are often undefined. The creature editor of Spore is no different.

Read about E3 event, or watch the actual Spore demonstration by Robin Williams.

Mind control

What will be the next greatest technology in the gaming industry? Some believe it is in the controllers that are used. Nintendo, for example, believes that by incorporating natural hand/arm/body movement (see Wii), their motion-sensing controllers will appeal to a wider audience that doesn't want to memorize buttons or combinations of buttons on a controller.
Perhaps. But researchers at the School of Medicine at Washington University have taken this one step further, by using a technique where data taken from the brain can be used to play Space Invaders.

Will be interesting how they might implement force feedback.

96-Kilobyte gaming

If you're tired of installing games that take 6 CDs, or all you have is a 1.5 GHz CPU with less than a megabyte of hard drive space to spare, the guys over at www.theprodukkt.com have a first-person shooter for you. This tiny game written in C++ even has lighting/shadow effects.

As with any executable you download from the internet, make sure you run your antivirus scan on this. They do have a note regarding false detections from ACG and Avira, but my scan checked out clean.
Download from their site. Thanks for the pointer fetid.
